Message I haven't posted here in a long time, but I used to, a few years back, and I could really use some help here...

A couple of weeks ago, I had brand new tires on my 91TT and I was going around a turn, gave it too much gas and lost it, went head on into the curb and then head on into a tree at maybe 15-20mph or so. The GTZR bumper looks ok, except for the ripped mounting holes. The JWT air filter was crushed. The metal support rail was broken and 1 or both of the intercoolers might be messed up. The airbags did not go off and other than the air filter, I think the engine is ok. I think the radiator is ok, although the oil cooler might be messed up.

Anyway... I reported the accident to my insurance and I don't have exact numbers in front of me, but it was something like this. According to the insurance company, the car is worth $9500, so if it costs more than about $6500 to fix, they total it. They said it would cost $7500 to fix it and they totalled it. They say that I can send them the Georgia title and tag and they'll cut me a check for $9500 + $500 tax - $1000 deductible = $9000. I can then buy the car back for $1500, so they would pay me $7500, but I would have a salvage title and I'd have to go through a bunch of inspection garbage to get a new tag.

I asked if I were to just drop the claim, if the title would be in the same condition (clean) as it was a month ago, and I was told that it would be.

It seems to me that I could find a 300zx that had been wrecked in the back for $2-3000, or buy a front clip and do most of the repairs myself.

So, as far as I can tell, my options here are:

1. Take $9000 and get rid of the car.
2. Take $7500, keep the car, and sell parts off of it.
3. Take $7500, keep the car, fix it, and deal with the GA DMV to get a new tag issued.
4. Drop the claim, and fix the car myself when I have time and money.

Any thoughts? I've had this car for almost 6 years and dealing with this is like losing my first born child. I really don't want to get rid of it, but I'm really not sure what to do here. I'd appreciate any advice, especially from anyone who's been through fixing a salvage titled vehicle in Georgia.

Thanks

Brad
